Starlight was designed by C. Raymond
Hunt Associates and is the largest boat built
by Goetz to date. Her 101-foot hull is built from
pre-preg glass with a balsa core, which results
in a relatively lightweight hull, providing better
performance and handling.
The hull was laminated upside-down
over a male mold (as is GCB standard practice),
and cooked in our newly expanded oven. After its
completion, the mold was dismantled from inside
the hull and the structure installed. On moving
day the hull was rolled outside, turned over using
four cranes, and loaded onto a 128-wheel trailer.
The ship was then moved to Bristol harbor, loaded
onto a barge, and moved to Derecktor’s shipyard
in New York, where she was fitted out with a beautiful
interior and mechanical systems. Goetz also built
her deck and house in Bristol, which were also
shipped to Derecktor for installation. The final
finishing of this well-travelled boat was at Palmer
Johnson in Savannah, Georgia. |
